This month, the Cockburn Basketball Association will be acknowledging National Mental Health Month, World Mental Health Day and National Mental Health Week to shine the light on the importance of keeping a healthy body and mind.
The association will proudly work to educate the community and encourage the Cougar Family to support each other, promote self care and reduce stigma associated with seeking support.
From next week, Cougar staff, referees, WABL coaches and managers will all be wearing the Mental Health Awareness ribbon. Green is the colour of mental health representing hope, strength and support.
Cockburn Basketball Association Chief Executive Officer Tyrone Thwaites said the Cougar community was already very active in the mental health space and he looked forward to taking that to the next level with the month-long activities.
“With the year that it has been, it’s important our community educate and support each other across Mental Health month,” Mr Thwaites said.
“Mental Health is incredibly important to our Cougar Family, and across October, we will be publishing self-care tips, have a visible awareness campaign inside the stadium, and provide education resources to our community on taking care of their mental health and well-being.
“Basketball Western Australia continue to be very active in supporting local Associations in the area of mental health, while our Cougar Family partnership with athlete-welfare service Outside the Locker Room continues to play a strong part in educating our WABL and SBL community.”
There will be a number of banners and signs on display in the Wally Hagan Stadium foyer for Mental Health week from October 10, with a number of resources also accessible from the WA Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) for the Cougar Family community below.
